37th District Court (B): Center Line

Welcome to the 37th District Court 

The 37th District Court, part of the State Judicial System and operating under the supervision of the Michigan Supreme Court, serves the communities of Warren and Center Line. Our court is committed to providing exceptional judicial services and upholding the law while ensuring the rights and dignity of every individual who appears before us. 

Our Services 

The 37th District Court has exclusive jurisdiction over the following matters: 

• Civil Cases: Handling all civil litigation up to $25,000. 

• Criminal Cases: Managing the arraignment, setting of bail, and preliminary examination of all criminal felony cases, and all criminal misdemeanor violations of state statutes where the penalty does not exceed one year in jail. 

• City Ordinance Violations: Addressing all city ordinance violations. 

• Traffic and Parking Violations: Overseeing all traffic and parking violations. 

• Additional Services: The court also handles marriages, landlord-tenant litigation, evictions, land contract forfeitures, garnishments, and other creditor collection procedures.

• Rights Protection: Ensuring every person has the right to a trial by judge or by a jury of six citizens, except in small claims cases and civil infraction traffic violations. 

• Accessibility: Making our services available to all community members, including those with disabilities or language barriers. 

• Efficiency: Streamlining court procedures to minimize wait times and ensure timely resolutions of cases. 

Appeals and Financial Distribution 

• Appeals: All appeals from the 37th District Court are directed to the Macomb County Circuit Court, ensuring a higher level of review and oversight. 

• Financial Distribution: Fines and fees assessed and collected by the 37th District Court are distributed to the State of Michigan, Macomb County, or the Cities of Warren or Center Line according to a statutorily established formula. 

Judges 

The 37th District Court is served by four dedicated judges, all of whom are attorneys elected by the citizens of Warren and Center Line for six-year terms. They are committed to upholding justice and ensuring fair treatment for all.
